ArcGIS Research Self-Service

This page provides Research staff and students with access to often requested information and services that they require with short turn-around times. You can always ask for help with any of these things!

All links provide access to BOTH ArcGIS v10.x and ArcGIS Pro.

Connecting V10.x

  1. If you are off campus:
    Connect to the University VPN
  2. Open ArcGIS Administrator Start Menu Icon screenshot of ArcGIS Administrator
  3. Select “Desktop” in the tree on the left-hand window.
  4. Select “ArcGIS for Desktop Advanced (Concurrent Use)”, and click the “change” button.
  5. In the dialog box that appears enter the name of the licence server that you were given by your course coordinator/tutor/SAL technical support and then click “OK”.

  6. Click on the “Apply” button.
  7. If you want to check what you are licensed to use, select “availability” from the tree in the left-hand window.  This will show you which features/extensions are available from the licence server, how many licenses there are, and how many are currently available.  As you have just connected to this licence server, you are using one “desktop advanced” license and one each of whichever extension licenses you currently have turned on in the ArcMap or ArcCatalog modules.
  8. Click OK to close the ArcGIS Administrator.
  9. The software is ready to use.

Connecting Pro

  1. If you are off campus:
    Connect to the University VPN
  2. Open ArcGIS Pro
  3. Select “Configure Licensing” from the bottom left-hand corner:

In the Licensing dialog box that appears:
  4. Select “Concurrent Use License” from the drop-down menu next to License Type. The section below the line will change, in the following sections:
  5. Ensure that you have chosen “Advanced” as the Licence Level.
  6. Enter the name of the Licence Server (supplied by SAL or your Subject Coordinator) in the box to the right of Licence Manager.
  7. Click Refresh
  8. Tick all the boxes that appear in the box above the Refresh button – leaving a box unticked will mean you cannot use that component or extension in ArcGIS, even though you have access to a licence for it.
  9. Check you have ticked all the extension/component boxes that are available!
  10. Click OK
  11. The software is ready to use.
