The March SALtech Session will be on Wednesday 28th from 12.30pm in the Map Library.

Our topic?

Geospatial Data Sources, Metadata, and Webservices

We will be discussing questions like:

• Are all data sources equal?
  If I’ve got a copy of some data, isn’t that enough?
• How necessary is metadata really?
• When is the right time to create my own metadata?
  Do I even really need to create my own metadata?
• What is a web service?
  How is it different to the data that I load from a share-drive?
• What situations are web services great for and when should I be cautious about relying on them?

We can also talk about ways of working out how to access geospatial web services with GIS software that are being used by other applications – and whether that is a thing the web service provider is OK with you doing!
